First off, fantastic meeting with your daughter! Did she actually say "you raised me in the witnesses?" Because that's already a mental acknowledgement that it's not the truth, I'd say. Otherwise, she would have said, you raised me in the truth! I think she's already starting to climb out of the box. Interesting choice of words! Only after I had mentally climbed out did I begin to use phrases like 'raised in the witnesses.' It's a small step, but a BIG ONE! Congrats!

yesterday night he asked me: why was jesus born perfect when mary was not perfect?
i said to him that it should be the same as having a surrogate mother.
Luke 1:35 says (paraphrased) that Holy Spirit would come upon Mary and the child born to her would be called God's Son.
This probably is a veiled reference to impregnation by an extraterrestrial similar to the angels before the Flood having intercourse with the daughters of men. Notice that men are always called 'sons of God' but women are always called 'daughters of men'.
Therefore, Jesus was, in all probability, an extraterrestrial. All these questions of perfect or imperfect are Paul's take on the sacrifice...really nothing to do with Jesus' actual physical existence - it just fits in with Paul's theology. Remember, Paul never met Jesus or had any dealings with him as a human being. The Gospels were all written long after Paul's letters and the Gospels were written to fit in with the PERFECT Son of God Paul had fashioned.
That's just an ALTERNATIVE explanation, but it does make some sense to me...ok, everybody, don't shoot the messenger!
young or old, it matters not, but from reading the threads of newbies it seems that many are active jws and are doubting!!!.
over the last two years it has "become evident" (tm) that there is a global awakening in the consciousness of many.
active jehovah's witnesses that something is....missing from their lives.
Not many young ones still trudging door to door in my area. Only those 'trapped' by very early baptisms. Any that make it past 16 unbaptized are 'waking up' to the 'reality of jdub life' (is that an oxymoron?)
This growing awakening is definitely a Western hemisphere PHENOMENON, I believe. The floodgates are about to open up in the rest of the world, shortly, as well, all thanks to GLOBAL COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY.

Don't know if this info has been posted anywhere else, but there is a legal issue brewing in Canada in this regard at the present time - it concerns dissident Anglican parishioners leaving the church over the issue of same-sex marriages. The parishioners claim that their congregations are the church and they therefore have a right to the church, whereas the diocese's position is that the dissident parishioners have zero claim to the PROPERTY, because they are simply individuals breaking away from the 'church' and the two sides will soon be heading to Court. The congregations apparently voted to break away. The Society may be PRE-EMPTING any individual congregation's eventual decision to break away by holding as much of the available funds in their hot little hands. I'm sure the Society lawyers spend a lot of their time watching events unfolding in the rest of 'Christendom' and are taking their directive cues from what they see brewing all around them.
In the interests of worldwide enlightenment, I hope congregations breaking away are the next stage of Jehovah's chariot moving forward and not far off!

i'm expecting that my dad-- the great grandpa, and my brother-- the grandpa will speak at the service, unless it's in a church-then they will likely not even show up.
i'm eagerly expecting comments about the resurrection for this 8 mo old.

Sadly, my view is that JW teaching on resurrection of infants is pure conjecture, like so much of their teaching on so many subjects.
That said, the greatest comfort to me is what Jesus said as he was expiring, which was 'Father, into your hands I commit my spirit'. Luke 23:45-47; Similarly, at Acts 7:59 Stephen said "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit". For what it's worth, I am content in the simple knowledge that at death our spirits go back to God, from whence they came. Beyond that I leave it in His hands. Just my 2 cents...
i'm considering reading this book and was wondering whether anyone from jwd has already read it and would like to share their thoughts on it.
being ever-the-skeptic, i'm intrigued by a philosophy that appears to embrace reality and the here-and-now, but i'm wary of the new-age-y-sounding-ness of it as well.
what do "believers" think of the book?
3/4 of the way through - reading on the advice of a friend, not normally something I would pick up. Hence skeptical going in, but loving it...he has a wonderful way of explaining very-difficult-to-explain concepts. Well worth the read in my opinion.
